Under the work-to-rule action, students will still attend classes as usual, but teachers will no longer participate in extracurricular activities such as afterschool programs or field trips.
Teachers will also arrive 20 minutes before school and leave 20 minutes after.
Teachers Union president Liette Doucet hopes this will help to demonstrate the scope of activities that teachers do for students that go above and beyond the classroom.
Doucet goes on to say teachers will not complete clerical duties or data collection and entry or attend meetings non-essential to lesson planning and implementation.
“Those things are not helping, they’re taking time away from planning for students and teachers want to be engaged with their students’ learning and they want to make sure their students are successful.”
She says the NSTU is still committed to negotiating a contract with the government at the bargaining table.
