The Yarmouth Junior A Mariners are dealing with some injuries heading into their game in Truro tomorrow night.
Defensemen Ryan Daley and Duncan McKie are both out for the game against the Bearcats, making things light on the back end.
Mariners Head Coach and General Manager Laurie Barron says help is on the way.
“We added a player from Saskatchewan, he’s actually a Florida kid, Preston Kugler. He’ll be in town tomorrow, and we’re just trying to get the paperwork done as we speak to give us that fifth defenseman.”
Also, forward Matthew Smith left the team this week for his home province of Newfoundland to go back to school.
Barron says Smith leaving took everyone by surprise.
“That was as big of a surprise as I’ve had honestly. Great kid, and a real leader. He got into a course he didn’t think he’d be able to get into, and he’s decided to go that route.”
Smith had two goals in 20 games this season.
Barron says they have some ‘irons in the fire’ as far as player movement goes.
Barron just returned from Cornwall, Ontario where he was assistant coach for Team MHL South at the Eastern Canada Cup.
Four Mariners, Matt Barron, Andrew Martell, Aaron Maillet and Noah McMullin also made the trip and performed well.
The Mariners sit in first place in the MHL with 33 points, three more than Pictou County.
