The round-robin is over at the 2017 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship.
Nova Scotia barely made the championship pool, finishing eighth overall with a 2-4 record.
Three other teams were 2-4, but Nova Scotia won the tiebreaker with the best draws to the button this week.
They defeated Alberta 8-1 in six ends last night, and watched as Yukon took down PEI 7-3, clinching the last spot for Nova Scotia.
Nova Scotia got the eighth and final spot based on accumulated draw shots, narrowly avoiding the seeding pool.
Flemming says their draws to the button saved them this week.
“We still need to pick up our game. We have to run the table. We can do it, I know we can. We have a good team. We’re starting over, and we need to pull up our socks.”
Team Yukon is made up of husband and wife Bob and Jody Smallwood as well as Scott Odian and Shannon Hall.
They curl out of Whitehorse and say Yarmouth is the farthest they’ve traveled to compete.
Bob Smallwood says they’ve been enjoying their time in our province.
“We went to Grosses Coques, had a lunch there. Saw a lady out there picking clams. We went out and asked how it was done, gave her a hand and walked around. It was pretty fun.”
Yukon will play in the seeding pool.
Nova Scotia meanwhile is back in action today at 2:30 against Northern Ontario and tonight at 7 they take on Saskatchewan.
The championship pool wraps up tomorrow, and the top four teams will play semifinals on Saturday morning, with the winners advancing to the gold medal game at 2:30.
