It was a good night for Ontario at Mariners Centre.
The 2017 Canadian Mixed Curling Championships opened in Yarmouth tonight with Ontario defeating New Brunswick 3-2 and Northern Ontario winning 10-5 over B.C.
Ontario Skip Wayne Tuck says both they and New Brunswick made great shots.
“It was a nice game to get your feet wet on the arena ice first draw. It wasn’t overly complicated, and we like to play aggressive.”
Northern Ontario Skip Trevor Bonot (bah-NO) says his team pulled out a tough victory.
“It’s great to be in this atmosphere. The ice is getting better every time we throw. The game was a little unsettling, but we made a couple of good shots at the right time and came out on top.”
The other games saw Saskatchewan eek out a win over Quebec 6-5 and Newfoundland and Labrador beat the Yukon 8-3.
The opening ceremonies were held earlier in the evening, with all 14 teams and local dignitaries in attendance.
Paul Flemming and Team Nova Scotia begin play tomorrow against Ontario at 2:30 and Yukon at 7pm.
Tuesday through Friday there will be draws at 10am, 2:30pm and 7pm.
The championship games will take place on Saturday at 2:30.
