Air visitation was up 15 per cent, and road travel increased nine per cent.
Most came from other parts of Canada, but there were over 15,000 visitors from the Northeastern United States.
320,000 room nights were sold in September, an increase of five per cent.
9,000 were sold in Yarmouth.
Mark Rodd, President and CEO of Rodd Hotels and Resorts says the Rodd Grand Hotel in Yarmouth had an excellent tourism season.
He says the departure and arrival time of Bay Ferries’ vessel the CAT was beneficial.
“We’re way ahead of last year. We’re seeing that all the way to our hotels in Prince Edward Island. The Americans are coming, they’re staying in Yarmouth. It’s just been a very good year all around. The Americans have to be down there the night before to be able to make the ferry, then there’s the ferry coming over late at night. They have the option to travel at night, but the majority are staying over. We have a very good relationship with Bay Ferries. We had a good year, so we’re looking at putting some more money into the property we have in Yarmouth.”
Rodd says he expects numbers to increase next year.
