The Town of Shelburne will foot the bill after vandals caused damage to King Street.
A two kilometre stretch of the street was being resurfaced earlier this fall.
People on ATVs did donuts or spun their tires on a section before it was completely finished.
The street was fixed up and resulted in a $6,000 cost to the town.
Mayor Karen Mattatall says it’s disappointing news.
“When somebody comes to do a job and damage is done on the site it’s certainly not the fault of the contractor. There really was no one else to foot the bill.”
Mattatall says the taxpayers are suffering because of the actions of a few.
She’s hoping the $6,000 bill can be paid by a contingency fund but if not it would have to come back to council for decision.
Mattatall says the money could have been used for something more worthwhile.
It’s not known if RCMP has made any arrests on the matter.
