Kevin Muise, Heather Kelly and David Dagley officially became members of the Region of Queens municipal council.
Susan MacLeod, Jack Fancy, Brian Fralic and Raymond Fiske sat on the previous council and were re-elected on October 15.
Dagley becomes the third mayor of the Region.
This is the sixth council since the Town of Liverpool amalgamated with the Municipality of the County of Queens in 1996.
He says the work begins now.
“We’ll sit down and look at our policies and our procedures and make sure that going forward we have them adjusted to where we would like them to be.”
He says he hopes council will review their communication strategy and make adjustments that work for everyone.
“We want to be sure that the Region of Queens is open and transparent to the citizens that elected us. We also understand that the media is an important way to get our message out.”
Dagley says council will look at getting the word out more through their website or social media.
Council currently holds daytime meetings. When questioned about possibly holding evening meetings, Dagley says “we haven’t had those discussions yet but we will.”
Gilbert Johnson, the councillor-elect for District 7, is in the Grand Bahamas helping install power to homes and businesses damaged by Hurricane Matthew.
He’ll be sworn-in at a later date.
The ceremony also featured ‘The Honour Song’ sung by members of the Acadia First Nation.
