The Remembrance Day ceremony at Mariners Centre will look a little different this year.
There will be limited seating on the floor of Arena 1, because the ice for the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship will be installed.
The five curling sheets cannot be covered, but the ceremony will still take place in the main arena, as some areas will be covered by carpet.
Host Committee Chair Rick Allwright says they’ve been working with Branch 61 of the Royal Canadian Legion.
“The big change will be where the stage is, and how many people can be on the ice surface. We’re shifting everything down to one end. The Mariners Centre video crew will put it on the big screen so everyone can see. And I think it’s a great opportunity for anyone who wants to see the rink for the curling championships, to see how great it’s going to look. We’re helping the legion make it happen. We’re going to work with them to make it a great success. It’s important for us to honour the veterans as well.”
Legion President Charles Crosby says veteran participation will be a little smaller this year, but they will make it work.
The service begins at 10:45am.
The Canadian Mixed Curling Championships begin on Sunday, November 13th.
