Traffic congestion on Starrs road in Yarmouth could be alleviated by the end of the week.
At least to some degree.
A set of lights at the intersection of Jody Shelley Drive and Starrs Road have been out of step with other lights
causing long line-ups of vehicles at times, nearly the whole length of Starrs Road.
Mayor Pam Mood says the problem has been identified.
“Basically the sensor pucks that were embedded in the asphalt were failing so we ordered new radar styles that are pole mounted.”
“I’ve been advised by the town staff that the contractor is in the area this week and be doing some work there so hopefully that will be remedied by the end of the week.”
She says Yarmouth is getting busier “we’re going to have to get used to a little bit of traffic.”
Mood also says parts have been ordered so that lights can be re-installed at the intersection of Starrs Road and Brunswick Street.
“We took the lights out and put the four-way up. many, many people appreciated the four-way stop, it {traffic} certainly goes faster but we’re guided by traffic counts so the lights will be going back up and that means we need to order the new parts.”
