The MP for South Shore – St. Margaret’s says she’s confident a motion addressing abandoned and derelict vessels will be approved this week.
Members of parliament will debate the motion on Monday in the House of Commons.
Looking forward to the final hour of debate on M-40 my motion to deal with Abandoned and Derelict Vessels! Tune in Monday #nspoli #cdnpoli

The motion is proposing to improve vessel registration and ownership identification.
It also calls on the government to help remove abandoned or derelict vessels in cases where they are an economic burden on a community.
Bernadette Jordan says it will be a long process.
“It’s not going to solve the problem overnight and that’s something we have to keep in mind. It’s not an automatic solution, it’s a first step and I’m really excited that we’re finally taking it.”
Transport Canada estimates there are over 600 abandoned or derelict vessels across Canada including several in the South Shore in areas like Barrington, Shelburne and Bridgewater.
Jordan says she would like to see a plan created within six months, if her motion is approved.
“I’ve actually spoke to Minister Garneau directly and as well to his office to say I’d like to be part of developing this plan because I think it’s really important that all of the issues in that motion are addressed.”
A vote on the motion will be held on Wednesday.
