A Yarmouth runner just completed his third Ironman race.
50 year old Bryan Hipson was in Kona, Hawaii recently, where he took part in the Ironman World Championships.
He placed 124th in his age division in the swim, bike and running event.
Hipson only began training for marathons at age 40, he’s already won the Nova Scotia Marathon and the Bluenose Marathon.
Hipson qualified for Worlds with a strong showing at an Ironman race in Mont-Tremblant, Quebec just six weeks earlier.
He says he doesn’t go into races with an intent to win.
“I’m just as happy to finish a race knowing that I did my best, and that’s really what I set out to do.”
He says it was a tough course.
“It was a very hard course. Even harder than Mont-Tremblant. I thought three hours of biking in the pouring rain, nothing would top that. Well Kona did.”
Hipson says when he hits the 55-59 age category, he may try to qualify for the world championships again.
He says he hopes to be an inspiration to those who want to run competitively.
You can hear more from Bryan Hipson this Sunday morning on the Weekender.
