Visitors to the town hall in Yarmouth are greeted with scaffolding and the smell of fresh paint.
A major project is underway after years of leaks and sustained damage made it necessary for the town to
issue a tender for the work.
It was awarded to Garian Construction for 145,000.
Mayor Pam Mood said the 25 year old building needed some TLC.
“We’ve had leaks, things like that, so it’s about time that some work got done here but we didn’t want to touch it until we fixed the roof and things like that.”
Mood says once the work is completed visitors will see a newly designed foyer.
“We are completely re-doing the foyer and the chambers as well. It’s been at least 25 years since anybody has touched any of this.”
The main council chambers are being renovated but Mood says a meeting room behind the chambers is being used
for meetings and council sessions are open to the public ensuring transparancy.
