The federal government will fund renovations to six small craft harbours in our region.
Today, West Nova MP Colin Fraser announced $5.7 million for projects at Camp Cove in Lower Argyle, Cape St. Mary’s, Parker’s Cove, Pinkney’s Point, Wedge Point in Wedgeport and Yarmouth Bar.
In a news release, Fraser says coastal communities benefit from the employment opportunities achieved through small craft harbour investment, which ensures fish harvesters can operate safely and efficiently for years to come and contribute to the Canadian economy.
Two of the harbours will see their investment extend for an additional $1.2 million.
Some of the work to be done includes dredging, installation of new wharves and breakwaters and more.
Full project breakdown:
Camp Cove (Lower Argyle) – Replacing the deteriorated older floating wharves with new floating wharves.
Cape St. Mary’s – Completing a project to dredge existing basin, constructing a service area and installing new floating wharves.
Parker’s Cove – Installing armourstone protection on the west breakwater and repairing the outer end of the west and east breakwater.
Pinkney’s Point – Reconstructing the south breakwater.
Wedge Point (Wedgeport) – Constructing a new breakwater on the north side of the wharf, constructing a containment cell and dredging the basin.
Yarmouth Bar – Dredging the two basins.
