A lobster fisherman from South Western Nova Scotia was handed hefty fines after pleading guilty to two charges. 27-year-old Jacob McGray of Yarmouth pleaded guilty earlier this month to fishing with untagged lobster traps and using improper escape panels on his pots. He was fined $27,000 for the untagged traps and ordered to forfeit the traps and 665 pounds of lobster worth over $5400. McGray was fined $2500 for the improper escape panels. DFO officers from the Meteghan detachment laid the charges. The offences occurred in LFA 38 on March 24.
