The Yarmouth Junior A Mariners look to remain perfect tonight.
It won’t be easy, as last season’s Eastlink North division champion Dieppe Commandos visit Mariners Centre.
Yarmouth is the fourth best team in the country right now, and in first place in the MHL with a 6-0 record.
The Commandos won 6-3 last night in South Shore, and are 3-2 through five games.
Mariners Head Coach and GM Laurie Barron says his team will have to be sharp against Dieppe.
“They are a great transition team. We’ll have to make sure we’re tidy in the neutral zone and don’t turn pucks over, make sure we make them play some defense and get pucks behind their D.”
Barron says the 6-0 start is nice, but there is lots of work to do.
“We’ve taken advantage of our schedule. We’re playing well but it gets a whole lot tougher, starting tonight. We’re happy, but certainly not overconfident.”
He says pending paperwork, a new defenseman, 19 year old Ben Chipman from B.C. will be joining the club in time for next weekend’s games.
This is Yarmouth’s only game of the weekend, they are next in action on Friday, October 7 against Amherst at Mariners Centre.
