Kids are back to school and that means some parents are getting ready to take bags of chocolate bars to work to help fund raise.
Chester District Elementary is trying something new.
Home and School President Beth Atherton says this year they’re selling boxes of locally grown vegetables.
She says the response has been incredibly positive.
“I’m going to be driving all the way to Halifax to deliver at least eight boxes so far,” she says. “So, people are very interested and really like the idea of this.”
Atherton says its a great program because it provides healthy food and helps local business.
She says the program requires schools to use the money towards a food initiative of some kind.
“We provide a Christmas dinner, free of charge, for all students in our school. Because not every child has the opportunity to have a turkey dinner on their table.”
She says the boxes should arrive just in time to be used for Thanksgiving.
