Nova Scotia is bringing in immigrants at a record pace.
Government released numbers this week that show 3,418 people moved to the province in the first six months of this year.
That’s more new Nova Scotians than in all of 2015.
Minister Lena Diab says that doesn’t tell the whole story.
“We have increased our numbers more than the last 12 months of 2015. But keep in mind that in 2015, we had increased more than any other previous year.”
Nova Scotia has also welcomed over a thousand Syrian refugees already this year through various sponsorships with more expected before the end of the year.
Diab says even though refugees accounted for a large number of new Nova Scotians, the province would’ve had a record number of immigrants anyway.
“Even without the refugees numbers, our numbers through our provincial nominees, their family members, they’ll increase in the first six months more than all of 2015.”
Diab says immigration is a top priority of this government and these numbers are excellent news.
