Hockey returns to Yarmouth tonight as the Junior A Mariners play their home opener against the Valley Wildcats tonight at 7:30.
Yarmouth won their first two games on the road last weekend, 4-3 in a shootout at Woodstock and 5-1 over St. Stephen.
Head Coach and General Manager Laurie Barron says his team played well defensively.
“I thought we were just so-so in the first period, but we were spectacular in the second and third period of both games. If you look at the St. Stephen game, we only gave up ten shots in the second and third combined.”
Tonight marks Barron’s return behind the home team bench.
Barron last coached the Mariners in 2014.
He’s treating it like just another game.
“I’m looking forward to it, but once they drop the puck it’s business as usual. Once they get the pomp and pageantry over and the introductions, we roll up the sleeves and it’s back to work.”
Valley has played just once, losing in overtime to the South Shore Lumberjacks.
The Wildcats took four of six meetings with the Mariners last year.
Tomorrow night, the teams meet again in Berwick.
