The warden for the Municipality of Shelburne says it’s exciting news for the community and the lobster fishery.
The municipality has sold its first set of lots to a Chinese-based company at the industrial park.
The municipality built the $1.2-million park near the Shelburne Ship Repair, hoping to attracting businesses.
Warden Roger Taylor says it worked out nicely.
We have just concluded the sale of two and a half acres in our industrial park to a company. They plan to build a 32 thousand square-foot processing facility for lobsters. It’s fantastic. We need jobs and we have to try and keep people in our community.’
Warden Taylor says First Catch Fisheries is committed to starting construction almost immediately.
He expects about 30 jobs will be created.
Warden Taylor says it’s fantastic news for the lobster fishermen as well.
“With the added competition, it should ensure a premium price.”
Taylor says he hopes this is just the beginning of an economic turnaround.
