The Liverpool Privateers Junior ‘B’ hockey club is showing their support for local firefighters.
The team is partnering with the Region of Queens to hold a Firefighter Appreciation Night during their home opener on Saturday evening.
Owner Jim Bottomley says the volunteers have battled several large wildfires.
“It was a tough summer in Queens and the firefighters do an exceptional job and hopefully it’s a great night for all.”
The game will feature a ceremonial face-off, shoot for cash and ‘Pass the Boot’ to support Queens Mutual Aid.
Bottomley says he’s glad they’re recognizing their efforts.
“Hopefully, with the weather changing things will start clearing up and give these guys a break and give them an opportunity to get together Saturday and have a good social event and enjoy the Privateers winning their first game.”
The Privateers play Glace Bay at 7:30 Saturday night at Queens Place Emera Centre in Liverpool.
The O’Regan’s Subaru Western Hurricanes take on the ACCEL Hawks before that game at 5 p.m.
