A Digby County elementary school will be closing.
The Tri-County Regional School Board voted to close Barton Consolidated School at a special meeting last night in Digby.
Students from Barton will go to Digby Elementary when the board officially decides to close the school.
The move is expected to save the board $175,000.
In 2012, Barton survived a school closure decision.
Also last night, the board voted to keep Digby Neck Consolidated School open, after voting down a HUB school proposal.
Digby Neck and Barton have utilization rates around or below 50 per cent.
62 students were enrolled at Barton last year, while 29 attended Digby Neck.
Excess space and declining enrollment were factors in the board conducting the review.
A school options committee recommended keeping both schools open.
