There will be a new mayor this fall in Lockeport.
After 16 years at the helm, Darian Huskilson has decided not to re-offer for the position in this October’s municipal election.
Huskilson says it was an overwhelming decision to make but has decided to focus more on his family.
“I’m going to focus on Darian, I’m going to focus on being a better husband and a better dad. It’s a new beginning for me and my family.”
Huskilson says he’s proud of his time as mayor, adding that Lockeport is a good, strong community with wonderful people.
“The Town of Lockeport is in a better place today than it was in 2000 when I first became mayor. I think a lot of people take pride in their community now and are more involved in their community.”
He was elected as mayor in 2000 at age 27.
Huskilson says he plans to go back to school and start a new career.
