A star-gazing facility in Yarmouth County will hold a grand opening September 9th.
The Deep Sky Eye Observatory in Quinan is the brainchild of legally blind astronomer Tim Doucette.
Construction began in early 2015, and people have been flocking to the unique destination since last September.
Doucette says the observatory has hosted over 150 guests since May.
“From around the world, which has been very exciting. Many people coming from the U.S., U.K., Africa, and more. It’s pretty exciting.”
In 2014, UNESCO deemed Yarmouth County a Starlight Tourism Destination.
There is an observing platform outside the facility, and high-powered telescopes inside, creating stunning views of the night sky.
Doucette says this is a dream realized.
The grand opening runs from 7-9pm.
Admission is free, but donations are being accepted for the Yarmouth Food Bank and the Quinan Fire Department.
