The Municipality of Barrington is adding additional options for those affected by a lack of water.
Wells are drying up, as Barrington has been one of the driest places in Atlantic Canada this summer.
Starting Tuesday night, the Municipality will have four washing machines on drilled well water sources available for public use, three at the Ground Search and Rescue building and a fourth at the arena. There is also bottled water available at the search and rescue building.
Fire departments have offered to fill large containers at people’s homes. The water is not treated and should only be used for flushing toilets or possibly washing clothes. Some local companies are offering fish boxes to residents so fire departments can fill them with water. ‘
Showers are still available at the arena and water fill stations are located at the RV Dumping Station at the Sherose Island Recreation Complex where residents can fill buckets. That water is not treated.
There are also hoses or water full stations available outside the Island Barrington, Port Latour and Port Clyde Fire Departments.
CAO Rob Frost says only steady rain will fix the problem.
He says those affected by the dry conditions need to inform the Municipal office.
