The province’s Climate Change Committee has heard from the president and CEO of NB Power that customers are looking for rate stability, reliability and cleaner energy.
Gaëtan Thomas telling the committee about their plan to transition to sustainable energy in New Brunswick which is a plan they’re confident in. He says we’re so dependant on electricity today and they expect that to rise in the future with a low carbon economy.
“In the future we also are looking at things like electrification of vehicle[s], we’re talking about hydrogen possibilities and these are all going to happen in the next five to 10 years in my opinion at a rate of, an exponential rate.”
He says when it comes to their cleaner energy vision they’ve already met their target this year for 2020 and they believe they’ll be able to exceed that by that time. He says in the last 15 years they’ve reduced their emissions by 64-percent.
“And that’s been done by investing in nuclear, in wind, 300 megawatts of wind, and also these new community policies.”
