A mobile exhibition is travelling across Canada with a purpose of clearing up misconceptions that people may have about Islam.
The campaign is called #MobileMuslims and it’s expected that the journey is going to last 40 days and be set up in over 25 Canadian towns and cities. Spokesperson James Sinclair tells us a lot of people associate Islam with terror and the horrific acts that take place around the world, but says Islam is actually a peaceful religion.
“As muslims, as the Ahmadiyyat Muslims of Canada we completely condemn acts of terror and any loss of life is something that goes completely against the teachings of Islam,” says Sinclair. “It teaches us in the Quran that if you’re to kill one person it’s as if you’ve killed all of mankind and if you’re to save one person’s life it’s as if you’ve saved all of mankind.”
He says that them just simply driving around with this trailer is provocative.
“So a lot of people are upset, a lot of people want answers, a lot of people want to know what’s going on. And again, it’s our job to help explain to them that the true teachings of Islam don’t have anything to do with the horrible things that people are seeing in the media that are being associated with Islam.”
They began the trip on July 13 in St. John’s, Newfoundland & Labrador and will finish in Vancouver, British Columbia. As for whether they have encountered much negativity on their journey so far, Sinclair says 98-percent of their journey has been very positive and the other 2-percent they’ve forgotten about already.
