The Nova Scotia Health Authority says a collaborative family practice team is coming together at the Digby and Area Health Service Centre.
Dr. Genna Bourget and Dr. Jennifer Chang began seeing patients last week, and Dr. David LaPierre will also support the team on an interim basis.
The plan is for the Drs. Bourget and Chang, to take on existing patients of the collaborative practice and Dr. LaPierre will see the unattached patients of the health centre.
Dr. Chang was practicing in Saint John, New Brunswick before moving to Digby.
She says they hope to see many primary care patients to make it easier on the emergency department.
“We’re hoping to offset the number of patients that are waiting over at the emergency department. Hopefully, that will make it easier for them and help their services as well.”
Dr. Chang says there are also two full-time nurse practitioners, and they will look to recruit two more doctors and two more nurse practitioners.
Those in Digby who don’t have a family doctor can call 811 to get on the list with Need a Family Practice.
