When Kim Masland ran for MLA she wanted to do some good, but she never thought she was going to save someone’s life.
That’s exactly what happened when the PC MLA for Queens-Shelburne was in a caucus meeting last week.
Masland was seated beside Victoria-the Lakes MLA Keith Bain when she noticed his head drop.
She shouted his name and when he didn’t respond, she put into action the CPR training she received.
She says everyone should be prepared to do what she did.
“It’s so important. Take the time. Go get that training. You never know when you’re going to need it. It could be a family member, a colleague, a friend, a stranger. There’s no greater gift you can give someone than to give them their life.”
Masland says she heard from Bain today.
“He laughed and he talked about how sore his chest was because we were doing CPR on him. Just very grateful, very thankful that he had colleagues who did everything they possibly could to make sure we’d see him walk through those caucus doors again.”
Bain has been released from hospital and is now recovering at home.
