For 20 years, a traditional Christmas dinner has been available for free in the Town of Yarmouth on Christmas Day.
Once again on Monday at the Yarmouth Lions Hall from noon to 3, all residents are welcome.
There will be eat-in, take-out and delivery options.
Organizer Brenda Hattie began the event when she was transferred to Yarmouth by the Canadian Armed Forces.
“My first meal was 12 people and six of them were volunteers. That didn’t deter me. I had Ray and Louise Zinck go up the road and gather people for me, and it’s grown ever since.”
She says it’s all about camaradrie, and she says nobody deserves to eat alone on Christmas Day.
There will be a piano player playing Christmas music as well.
Hattie says donations are accepted but not necessary.
She thanks all the local businesses who help out every year.
The meal is also part of the new 100 Meals in 100 Days initiative by the Mayor’s Task Force.
