RCMP say evidence collected at the scene of a fire yesterday at a Yarmouth restaurant suggests it may have been intentionally set.
Firefighters from three departments responded to a call of a fire at Chuck’s Diner on the Hardscratch Road around 5:20 Tuesday morning.
RCMP media spokesperson Cpl. Jennifer Clarke says investigators from the Yarmouth Town RCMP and Fire Marshal’s Office examined the scene.
“They did find evidence that suggests that the fire may have been intentionally set and we also interviewed witnesses”
Clarke says the building’s owner and staff were among those witnesses.
Cpl. Clarke was asked about the evidence that was collected.
“I can’t be specific about details of an investigation, but suffice to say people who are very familiar with fire scenes and how they work, they have gathered evidence that they feel indicates the fire was intentionally set and from that we’re asking for information from the public.”
The Yarmouth Town RCMP is asking anyone with information about the incident to come forward by contacting the Yarmouth Town RCMP at 902-742-8777 or by contacting Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
