Their opponents, the Truro Bearcats knocked Yarmouth out of the first round of the playoffs last season in five games.
Head Coach and General Manager Laurie Barron says they won’t be focused on that.
“New season, new team. The bottom line is tonight, we’re both 0-0. We’ll look no further ahead than this game. It’s always a good rivalry, we’re a good hockey club and they’re a good hockey club. We just need to play our best game.”
Barron says his team will be ready to go, and the strong preseason and practices have helped them prepare for the opening game.
“The preseason doesn’t count, but it has helped us get ready for this first game. I think the preparations have been well done and I think the guys are really looking forward to getting going here.”
The Mariners have nine returning players from last season on their opening night roster.
Yarmouth will take on the Valley Wildcats tomorrow night at Mariners Centre.
The team will play their first four games on home ice.
