(Mayor Karen Mattatall speaks at rally in Shelburne condemning ER closures-CJLS News)
The mayor of Shelburne says it’s insulting how the province is treating residents.
Karen Mattatal is referring to the latest closure of the ER at Roseway Hospital.
The department closes at 5pm today until Saturday morning at 8.
The ER will close again on Saturday at 5pm until Tuesday at 8am.
Mayor Mattatall is outraged.
“This has gone way beyond unacceptable. It’s outrageous. Then it (health authority) suggests there could be other closures between Christmas and New Year’s.”
The NSHA says they are trying to fill shifts to avoid another closure next week.
Mayor Mattatall says it’s a little late for that.
She took to social media yesterday to offer “thanks” for the closures.
Here is her post:
Karen Mattatall
I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO PERSONALLY THANK PREMIER MacNEIL, HEATLH MINISTER DELOREY AND THE NOVA SCOTIA HEALTH AUTHORITY FOR THIS CHRISTMAS GIFT!!!
Of course being Christmas, we certainly should anticipate their would be no coverage available at a time when many are traveling the roads so they can spend time with loved ones. Excellent news and bonus, Environment Canada is now predicting a high likelihood of a snow storm on Christmas Day. Note that the NSHA says there may be additional closures over the holiday period however they are continuing to work to find coverage. In my opinion, this should have been done long ago, not the day before these unacceptable closures are beginning. Clearly someone is not working hard enough. Please stay safe everyone because as we can see any requirement for Emergency service will find us in the back of an ambulance, quite possibly on slippery, snow covered roads. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
Roseway Emergency Department Schedule, December 22 to 26
Thursday, December 21, 2017 – 03:13PM
The emergency department at Roseway Hospital, Shelburne, will be closed:
Friday, December 22, closed at 5 p.m. and reopening Saturday, December 23 at 8 a.m.
Saturday, December 23, closed at 5 p.m., and reopening Tuesday, December 26 at 8 a.m.
This means the emergency department will be closed December 24 and 25. This is due to the availability of physicians.
Although these upcoming closures are being announced now, we will continue to work to find physician coverage during these times. We will provide updates if there are any changes to the schedule. For updates, please re-visit NSHA’s website.
There are additional gaps in the Roseway emergency department schedule the week after Christmas. We are currently working to find coverage for as many of these shifts as possible.
