A Yarmouth Municipal councillor is hoping that all three levels of government will come together to help get the Sandford drawbridge
working again.
It’s been out of commission for almost a year.
Patti Durkee, the councillor for District 4, which includes Sandford, says the Sandford Harbour Authority will be working with Small Craft Harbours on a funding proposal.
She says the bridge is a tourist attraction and important to the community.
“It’s very special for the community. It’s been there for a very long time. It’s noted as the world’s smallest working drawbridge, unfortunately it’s not working right now.”
The drawbridge allows fishing boats to come and go, while people can walk from one side of the harbour to the other without having to leave the wharf.
The mechanics that lower and raise the drawbridge are worn out and have to be replaced or repaired and some of the wood in the structure is rotten and must be replaced.
