Plane crashes in Yarmouth County.

Monday, March 8th 2010

The pilot of a small plane was airlifted to hospital in Halifax with serious head injuries after a small plane crash in Argyle.

The 26-year-old pilot was trying to make an emergency landing yesterday on the Camp Cove Wharf Road in Argyle when the Cessna hit a tree.

RCMP say says two passengers in the four-seat airplane suffered minor injuries. The passengers were employees of Environment Canada who had chartered the plane.

The aircraft was travelling from Greenwood to Yarmouth at the time of the mishap along Highway Three.

Local resident Arley Spinney says he heard a ``thump'' when the plane hit an apple tree.

He says his neighbours were driving up the highway when the plane passed in front of them, and they had to hit the brakes to avoid a collision.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is investigating.
