Board member defends SWSDA.

Thursday, February 25th 2010

A member of the board of directors of the South West Shore Development Authority is taking exception with some of the comments of the provincial Ombudsman. In his report into SWSDA, Dwight Bishop says CEO Frank Anderson appeared to be in a conflict of interest and that the board merely rubber-stamped Anderson's actions. Yarmouth municipal councillor Trevor Cunningham told his fellow councillors last night that some of the comments in the ombudsman's report were unfair. Cunningham told CJLS News that the SWSDA board conducted its work diligently. "Over decades decisions have been made and I think they've been responsible ones by board members." "At the end of the day the board's responsible for making the motions, passing the motions and giving directions to the CEO which he takes." "I'm satisfied with what I've seen over the last year. I think some of those comments in the report are borne out of the history of the organization and the activities and so forth that took place in Shelburne county some time ago and I think that's lent some confusion to matters." Cunningham says Frank Anderson should not be replaced and should remain as CEO of the new development authority when it is in place at the beginning of April Cunningham says he has full confidence in Anderson.
