Mayor of Yarmouth gets up close and personal with Premier

Wednesday, February 10th 2010

Mayor Phil Mooney says he cornered the premier at an event last night in Halifax that both men were attending. Mayor Mooney says while he only had about 5 minutes with Dexter, he made it clear what he wanted the premier to do. Mooney says he told Dexter he has to personally call federal minister Peter MacKay about funding the Cat ferry this year. Mooney says Dexter told him his staff was in contact with th feds. Mayor Mooney says "I told the Premier that he and not his staff must make the call. He says Dexter didn't say whether or not he would. Mooney says the federal Atlantic Conservative caucus is meeting this week in Saint John, New Brunswick and all the federal ministers will be there. He says it's a perfect time for Dexter to contact the federal government. Mayor Mooney says if the Dexter government thinks people will give up on the ferry issue, they're sorely mistaken.
