Twin-Cities To End Flight Service Between Yarmouth and USA.

Tuesday, November 6th 2012

Twin Cities Air Service is pulling out of Yarmouth.

Company owner Nate Humphrey says scheduled flights from Portland will cease December 31st.

He says his decision is based on a single factor...not enough passengers.

"If every month could look like June, July or August, we'd be in great shape. With the winter months, the route is only able to support three flights a week, with assistance from the government. To keep people employed full time, and the aircrafted insured and maintained, it's just not enough profitability."

Humphrey says there are other contribituting factors including higher labor, insurance and fuel costs and what he calls "crippling regulations".

He does say Yarmouth has a great airport and his experience has been positive.

"It's a beautiful airport. We had some equipment frustrations sometimes, but that got fixed. It's a beautiful facility, and everyone's been very pleasant and very helpful."

Twin Cities began its Portland-Yarmouth service two and a half years ago.
