Work continues on Milton Dam.

Tuesday, July 3rd 2012

The water levels in two Yarmouth County lakes continue to drop.

Public Works crews for the town of Yarmouth began lowering the water in Lake Milo and Doctors Lake on June 25.

It's so work can proceed on the Milton dam. Repairs are needed to the concrete structure, fencing and fish ladder.

Sand bags have been trucked to the site.

Crews have been dismantling the steel fence around the dam.

The reconstruction of the Milton dam will cost about half a million dollars.

Swimmers at the Milo Boat Club beach are being warned not to dive because the water is so low.

Yarmouth Recreation Director Frank Grant told CJLS on the weekend that the main concern is bacteria levels.

He said egular testing is done as so far the bacteria counts are within acceptable levels.
