SPCA ADOPTABLE PETS - Wednesday

Cookie is a black and white kitty who is just 6 months old. She loves to
snuggle up to you and loves attention too. She would love to be a lap cat
where she can snuggle all the time. Cookie is here at the shelter with her sister Oreo. It would be great if these girls could be adopted together however they can be adopted separately.

CAT DUMP

WHAT ARE PEOPLE THINK WHEN THEY "DUMP" UNWANTED CATS OUTDOORS? WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE DO WE REALLY HAVE LIVING AMONG US?

Twenty-six dumped cats have been live trapped at an abandoned house in a rural community outside of Lockeport, Shelburne County. They are currently at our shelter building waiting spay/neuter appointments, surgeries and are recuperating. Many of them are dumped house cats who were once family pets as they are scared, but not wild or feral. We were told that there were only 5-6 cats at this location. Much to our surprise, we now have 26!

The ears of one male cat have been frost bitten many times and they are terribly infected to the point that he really doesn't have ears anymore. Another cat has an eye that looks like a small jelly-fish and is protruding out on his face. We are seeking medical attention and are booking surgeries to help heal these suffering animals. If you can sponsor a part of the cost by making a donation, that would help so much.

Many of them are kittens that could fit on the palm of your hand. These kittens were not born in the wild. Someone dumped them. Several cats are in pretty good shape, leading us to believe that they were dumped recently. Others, have been suffering for a long time and it is rather disturbing. We are determined to do the right thing and help these cats recover, find homes and make a positive difference.

We are asking for your help.

We need monetary donations, litter, cat food, towels/cleaning rags, paper towel (to name a few things) to take care of these cats. Items can be dropped off at Maria's Convenience, King Street, Shelburne. Food and litter can be placed at our drop off bin at Sobeys. If you are interested in volunteering, please let us know. Please spread the word to encourage adoptions! We need to find 26 homes for 26 cats!

Donations for vet care can be mailed to PET Projects PO Box 267 Shelburne NS B0T 1W0 or on-line at
http://www.canadahelps.org/GivingPages/GivingPage.aspx?gpID=16540 We are a non-profit, charitable organization that is not government funded but rely on donations from our community. We issue tax receipts. Even if you can spare $5 it all helps.

Estimated cost to spay/neuter 26 cats and to provide ear and eye surgeries is estimated to be between $2500. - $3000. We need the help of good people to make this ‘wrong’ better. Together, we can make a positive difference.

OUR MESSAGE: Dumped cats suffer. Please spay or neuter your pet. If your cats has kittens, please find them homes. It is illegal to dump animals.

Meet a few cats of the healthier cats from the colony who will soon be up for adoption.
(photos of the sick cats are a little disturbing so we decided not to send them along)

Warmest regards with peace,
The PET Projects Team

Got Your Dog Tied Out Back?

Why do so many people have a dog, tie it to a dog house or a tree and essentially ignore it for the majority of its life. Dogs are pack animals and need companionship. Owners are supposed to be the leader of the pack. Sadly, so many dogs are neglected, left to shiver through the COLD of winter, unloved, unwanted, frustrated to the point of giving up. If you have a dog and no longer "care" for it, contact Pet Projects or other rescue group and let them re-home it for you. It's the very least you can do. Thanks.
PET PROJECTS - SHELBURNE

Regardless of where you live, cat over-population is everyone's problem. By allowing cats to remain unneutered or spayed only adds to the already huge burden. I's not fair to the animals or the many volunteers that do their best to find loving homes for all these "dumped off" cats. If you have cats that are not spayed or neutered, get it done right away before another unwanted litter comes along. It is your responsibility!
